Faith

1. We are to live in faith. Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

2. We should ask the Lord to increase our faith. Luke 17:5 “And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.”

3. We should stay in faith. 1 Corinthians 16:13 “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.”

And we need faith to…

1. Get saved. Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”

2. Please God. Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

3. Quench the fiery darts of the wicked. Ephesians 6:16 “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”

Some people in the Bible who had faith:

A centurion. Matthew 8:5-10 “And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”

A woman with a blood issue. Mark 5:25-34 “And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”

Stephen. Acts 6:8 “And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.”

And Abraham. Hebrews 11:17 “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,”

  2. I agree. I would just note that when the disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith, he basically said, "It's not the size of your faith that counts, but whether or not you use it." What he literally said was that if they had faith the size of a mustard seed (i.e. really small), they could still command a mountain to move and rest assured it would be done. On that topic, go ahead and do that with any mountain in this world, and - again - rest assured it will obey your command. After all, Revelation says that the day will come when EVERY mountain is thrown thrown down!

  3. How neat; the Lord recently encouraged me with this verse in Hebrews chapter 11, verse 13: "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth." And isn't that just what verse 1 says? ("Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.")

Won't it be great the day that our faith becomes sight? I can hardly wait!!!
